Frequently Asked questions
Getting to Know WHE (Start Here!)
What is We Hate Exercise (WHE)?
WHE is a 13-week science-backed exercise program designed for people who struggle with motivation, dislike traditional fitness, or feel intimidated by exercise culture. Instead of trying to convince you to love working out, we help you build small, consistent movement habits—without shame, pressure, or perfection. Watch our overview video here!
Do I need to already be “in shape” to join WHE?
Not at all. If you can move your body in any capacity—walking, stretching, lifting a light weight—you can do WHE. If you’re starting from scratch, you’re exactly who we built this for.
What if I genuinely hate exercise?
Welcome home. You don’t have to love, want, or even like exercise. WHE meets you where you are and helps you build a habit in a way that feels doable and human.
What if I’m embarrassed or nervous?
Completely normal. Almost everyone feels that way at first. WHE is approachable, real, and judgment-free. Your coach and group will meet you where you’re at—not where fitness culture says you “should” be.
Is WHE a weight-loss program?
No. WHE is about building a lasting movement habit that supports your mental and physical health. Some people notice physical changes, but our focus is strength, mood, function, energy, and longevity—not the scale.
Understanding the Program
What results should I expect?
Most haters notice improvements in energy, mood, sleep, stress, strength, and overall consistency. And 90% of participants meet their exercise goal—nearly double industry averages!
How soon do people usually feel different?
Many notice shifts in 2–4 weeks—especially in mood, energy, and confidence. Physical changes come with consistency.
What’s the coach for?
Your coach is your real-life support system. They help you set doable (SMART) goals, troubleshoot when life gets messy, answer questions, and keep things realistic—not overwhelming.
What’s the difference between the coach and the group community?
Your coach handles guidance and strategy. Your group brings camaraderie, humor, accountability, and the “we’re in this together” energy. Both matter.
What’s the pledge?
The pledge is money you set aside to help motivate yourself. You and your team set the pledge together, so it’s an achievable amount to support keeping each other accountable. If you miss your weekly goal, 25% goes into a group celebration pot (you do get one free pass). At the end, the pot is split: half to the winner, half to the group celebration you choose together. We Hate Exercise keeps $0 of the pledge.
What’s a group celebration?
Anything your group decides—happy hour, Zoom toast, gift cards for treats, or even donating to a shared cause. The point: celebrate together in a way that feels good.
Can I invite a friend?
Yes! People can join until “Week 1,” when goals are set and pledges made. After that, they’ll join the next group.
Can I do another WHE group?
Absolutely. Many do. Since we’re in beta, the content is mostly the same—but you’ll be more confident and often more connected the second (or third) time.
Your Goals, Habits, and Real Life
Why can’t I change my goal every week?
Because your brain loves consistency. Keeping the same goal for 4 weeks helps build neural pathways for lasting habits. If you prefer flexibility, set broader goals like “aerobic” or “strength” instead of a specific activity.
What counts as exercise?
Almost anything that intentionally increases movement: walking, yoga, stretching, strength training, cycling, dance, hiking, or short movement bursts throughout the day. Your coach helps tailor it to your life.
How much time does WHE take each week?
The program itself only requires that you log in for 2-3 minutes per day, that’s it! Most haters set exercise goals between 30–90 minutes per week, often in short sessions. The best amount is the amount you’ll actually do!
Do I have to exercise every day?
No. Many people move 2–3 times per week and see great progress.
What if my schedule changes week to week?
Life happens. Your coach helps you adjust your approach within your 4-week cycle so you can still succeed.
What if I get sick?
Often, gentle movement supports healing—but always follow medical guidance. Your coach can help you adjust your goal for the week. Rest always counts as caring for your body.
What if I forget to log my exercise?
You can log until Sunday night. If you forget, DM your coach.
I did extra exercise. Why can’t I count it?
Because the program tracks whether you met your specific goal. Extra movement is amazing for your body—even without bonus points (which are coming in a future version!).
What if I don’t succeed?
WHE is built for people who think they won’t. Falling short isn’t failure—it’s being human. Your coach helps you adjust, your group supports you, and you start again with self-compassion.
Health, Accessibility, and Lifestyle Fit
Can I participate if I have an injury or chronic condition?
Yes! Of course clear movement with your medical team if needed, but you are 100% in charge of what you do. Many people recovering from an injury or managing a chronic condition start with walking and/or light stretching.
I have no stamina. Will this still work for me?
Yes. WHE was designed for beginners, restart-ers, and people who avoid exercise. We start exactly where you are.
Can I participate if I’m traveling?
Yes. You can log in from anywhere, and your coach can help you adjust your plan.
Do I need special equipment?
No. Your body is enough. You pick the exercise you want to do, we just keep you doing it.
